Hey, goal diggers! I polled my Instagram community and they let me know how interested they were in hearing about my one day juice cleanse so I’ve decided to give y’all a quick review! Below I’ve detailed my reasoning for doing a detox, the benefits of doing a juice detox, a breakdown of how I felt at each juice including its taste and how hungry I was, and how I felt afterward.
Purpose and Benefits
There are many reasons to pursue a one-day juice cleanse, but I’ll start with mine. I love doing natural and supplemental cleanses and detoxes during certain times of the year, but since those are more long-term (3-7 day cleanse), I wanted to try something that was a 1-day commitment and would release negative toxins from my body while still providing key nutrients. Also, I got my period last week and I’ve felt very bloated since then. To add, the food I chose to consume since starting my cycle has not been the best. So, I basically needed one day to re-align my body with myself, my goals, and my routine.
Other benefits of doing a one-day juice cleanse (which are really great benefits) are:
- It allows your digestive system to rest
- Hydrates you
- Improves your mental clarity
- Decreases bloating and food cravings
- Helps you feel more refreshed and energized
The Juice Breakdown
I chose the most popular cleanse from Pressed Juicery (this is not a sponsored post, might I add), which is the Cleanse 2. Cleanse 1 is for beginners and Cleanse 3 is for more experienced juicer detoxers.
Juice 1: apple, cucumber, celery, lemon, spinach, kale, parsley
9 am: I’m not huge on breakfast but despite that, this juice was relatively easy to knockdown. It’s a classic green juice whose flavor I am familiar with so not only was this easy to consume, but it was tasty. I was missing my coffee, but I felt like I was on a mission to complete my first ever one-day juice cleanse so I felt focused and motivated to get through 5 more of these.
Juice 2: apple, pineapple, lemon, mint
11 am: At this point, I’m still not hungry but I can tell my appetite is picking up which means I’ll be hungry in the next 1.5 hours or so. That said, this juice was good but the sweetness of the pineapple was certainly coming through. I am not a huge fan of sweet drinks, but this wasn’t overly sweet so it was fine for me. My appetite definitely picked up and I can’t help but to think “what have I gotten myself into?” Still motivated and focused, but hungry!
Juice 3: Apple, lemon, ginger, beet
1 pm: LOTS of ginger! A bit on the spicy side, but still has a good flavor. I can certainly taste the apple and lemon but mostly I taste the ginger with a hint of beet. By this time I was tired of drinking. My 3 PM alarm went off for drink #4 and I hadn’t yet finished drink #3. So guess what I did? Yep! I chugged it, but in increments, because it has a kick to it. I am starting to get really hungry at this point and even contemplated eating a banana, but I practiced discipline and decided to not consume anything outside of the juice cleanse.
Juice 4: apple, cucumber, celery, lemon, spinach, ginger, kale, parsley
3 pm: This juice tastes very similar to the first! Light, refreshing, and flavorful. I’ve always loved a good green juice mix – especially since I prefer to drink my greens. The only issue is that I am starving and not enjoying the juice because I’d much rather prefer two eggs scrambled with ground turkey in them (my favorite, quick go-to meal).
Juice 5: Cucumber, pineapple, coconut water, lemon, aloe vera
5 pm: A lot of the pineapple, cucumber, and coconut water blended flavors really come through on this one. I’m not big on sweet drinks, but this one definitely has a naturally sweet flavor to it. It is not in any way overbearing. How do I feel? Well, at this point, I am juice and my body is a juice box. However, I naturally feel energized and light on my feet; I didn’t have any coffee consumption this morning so that’s a great thing. I’ve only had about two bowel movements since my first juice, which is great because for some reason I thought I’d be going all day.
Juice 6: Almonds, dates, vanilla extract, sea salt
7 pm: By now you all know I don’t really like sweet drinks, but what you don’t know is that I equally do not like creamy drinks as well. Therefore, I am S T R U G G L I N G! I am literally forcing this drink down my throat and have even gone so far as to google the exact benefits of this specific drink because… can I just not drink it and end on drink #5? I didn’t finish the drink because I truly just couldn’t stand drinking it straight – it’s non-dairy almond milk and I can’t drink any type of milk.
After Cleanse Feeling
I was so hungry, but also very proud of how I chose discipline over desire. I still felt very light on my feet and very much so like a juice box, but not in an uncomfortable way. I functioned on natural energy levels throughout the day of the cleanse and didn’t miss having my morning coffee after the initial realization went away. Surprisingly enough, I didn’t go through any mood swings due to my hunger, but this could solely be based on how motivated and focused I was to complete this cleanse in full. The next morning I woke up feeling light, energized, happy, and healthy. I was no longer bloated and took some time admiring my non-bloated body in the mirror. All in all, I will certainly plan to partake in this cleanse again and one day I hope to graduate to the cleanse for experienced juice detoxers.
