Lay The Foundation for 2020

Welcome to 2020!!! The new year is refreshing for so many reasons. It allows the opportunity for a fresh start, a clear mind, and hyper-focused goals. Sometimes we are so eager to hop into the groove that we forget to lay the foundation. That’s what we talk about in this blog post. The four things that you should do to lay the foundation for your success in 2020.

“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”

Gratitude

Gratitude makes us more successful, which is why it’s key to START the year with feelings of gratefulness. We have so much to be thankful for, but they are easy to miss when we don’t take time to appreciate those things. We are always so eager to hop into what’s next and what the new year will bring. Take time to be grateful for what’s now and what life has already brought you. This is a good habit to form because you will subconsciously teach yourself how to be grateful for each part of the journey that is to come.

Set goals that you will work to achieve

Having direction is so important to get to your final destination. We talked about it in another blog post. You know your final destination, but there are multiple routes that you can take to get there. Layout the map and figure out which route you’re taking this year. Set goals, but be SMART about them. Set them quarterly so that you can revisit them, track your progress, pivot as needed, and ultimately meet all of your goals by the end of the year. Set a variety of goals; financial, professional, personal, physical, spiritual, etc. I typically focus on achieving three goals per quarter that focuses on each aspect of my life. Ex: three physical goals, three financial goals, three academic goals, etc. You’re basically meeting one goal per month for each category.

Personal Mantra

Set a personal mantra to inspire and motivate you for the rest of the year. This mantra may change throughout the year, and that’s okay, but it’s important for us to manifest and set the tone for how our year will go.

My 2020 mantra is: I am becoming the best version of myself and I am in love with who I am becoming. I am a magnet for success and the things that I want to achieve are not out of reach. I am proud of myself and I am driven to do more.

Reflect

We all have so much going on that it makes it hard to settle down and clearly reflect. The truth though, is that we really need to take time and think about the past and how it has impacted the present and how it will impact the future. Before you kick into the next gear, take some time to put it in neutral and reflect on almost everything!

What was 2019 like for you? What about the past decade? What are the things that you are happy about? How could you have improved those years? What does success look like for you? What did it look like in the past decade? How do you plan to shift that this year? What about in the coming years? How can you improve the relationships in your life? Are there any relationships/friendships that no longer serve you? How can you be a better person/friend/family member/etc.?

So many questions to ask yourself. So many answers to give yourself. Take time to reflect before you press play. You need to be clear about things as you shift into this next phase of life. There are so many great things in store for you, but you have to focus, plan, be clear, reflect, and put it into action. Lay the foundation for your year and plan for success along the way! WE got this.
